1050 Denier coated Ballistic Nylon Fabric - Black
Ballistic nylon fabric is a thick, tough fabric used for a variety of applications demanding very abrasion resistant fabric.
Modern applications of ballistic nylon include luggage, cave packs, tool belts, police duty belts, watchstraps, motorcycle jackets, motorcycle chaps, and skin-on-frame kayaks.
The original specification for ballistic nylon was an 18 oz nylon fabric made from 1050 Denier high tenacity nylon yarn in a 2x2 basketweave. It can be woven from nylon yarns of various denier such as 840 Denier and 1680 Denier. Laboratory tests have been run and the 1050 Denier fabric is the strongest and most durable fabric for its denier weight level. The 1680 Denier looks very similar to the 1050 Denier when it is new, but according to some sources, it is actually not as strong as 1050 Denier and abrades faster.
Ballistic nylon is tough to dye and tough to coat due to the coarse, basketweave texture. The fabric sometimes shows dye streaks.
As of August 3, 2022, we have one roll remaining of INVISTA® / CORDURA® brand 1050D Berry Compliant ballistic. INVISTA® sold the rights of this yarn to other manufactures. So, moving forward, this will no longer be branded CORDURA®, but will still be the same fabric.

Care
General Nylon Care Tips
Nylon fabrics are very durable and you can wash and dry them at home.
- Wash in cool to moderate water temperatures.
- Do not use bleach. For tough stains use a dry cleaning solvent first.
- Fabric softener is not recommended as it affects the function of the water repellent applied to some fabrics, but often times it can diminish a static problem. There are various brands of softeners with different chemistries and some will help static at the expense of water repellency, and others will have no effect on either. No softener will damage the basic fabric and will come off in the next wash
- HOWEVER, absolutely do not use fabric softener on waterproof breathable Nylon faced fabrics.
- Hang dry or dry in a medium temperature dryer.
- Remove from dryer and hang promptly to minimize wrinkles.
- You can iron with a presser cloth. Always test first on scraps or out-of-sight parts.
- 100% Nylon fabric can be dry cleaned
Some Nylon fabrics have a durable water repellent (DWR) finish on the front face of the fabric. The DWR helps the fabric shed water and stains. Over a period of time this DWR finish will wear off and needs to be replenished. If your fabric stops beading water on the front face you can replenish this finish with a protectant called ReviveX® Water Repellent for Outerwear. It comes in a cleaner and spray on form.
