Neoprene Fabrics

Neoprene® synthetic rubber or polychloroprene is a family of synthetic rubbers that are produced by polymerization of chloroprene. Neoprene exhibits good chemical stability, and maintains flexibility over a wide temperature range. Neoprene is used in a wide variety of applications, such as laptop sleeves, orthopedic braces (wrist, knee, etc.) for both humans and animals, insulating and protective covers.1

Neoprene rubber is made in sheets that are approximately 47" x 85" ±5% in size depending on Foam Type, and come in thicknesses from 1.0mm to 8.0mm. They are typically covered on both sides by a light nylon or polyester tricot mesh.

Neoprene (CR) rubber resists degradation more than natural or synthetic rubber (SBR). Neoprene is a closed-cell foam; the cells inside the neoprene do not connect to each other. This makes it more resistant to any permanent changes in shape and keeps it from absorbing water.

Allergies

Neoprene rubber does not contain any latex and so is a good alternative for those people allergic to latex. However, some people are allergic to neoprene while others can get dermatitis from thioureas residues left from its production. Also, B Foam Neoprene is a mixture of SBR and CR rubbers, and so people allergic to latex should test exposure to to B Foam prior to use.

Buying Neoprene

Go to Order Neoprene

Rockywoods sells Neoprene fabric by the cut foot and by the full sheet. If you order 1 foot you will get a piece that is approximately 1 foot by the width of the sheet, usually 45". If you want a full sheet, order 7 feet. If you order 9 feet you will get a 7 foot sheet and a 2 foot piece. To get multiple sheets, order multiples of 7 feet; 7, 14, 21, etc.

The color choices are for 1 side. The other Neoprene side is always a black tricot nylon. If you want to print on Neoprene sheets using Dye Sublimation, you need to order our standard White Neoprene fabric with the high density polyester face.

Some combinations of neoprene foam type, thickness and color are available but only as a special order, and then only by the full sheet.

Neoprene Foam Types

There are a variety of Neoprene foam types that offer different characteristics at different prices. The most common Neoprene Foam types used are B Foam, K Foam, L Foam and S Foam.

Name CharacteristicsTypical Uses
B Foam Made of 70% SBR and 30% CR Neoprene rubber. Although not as resistant to ozone as regular neoprene rubber sheets, but pricing is much more competitive. 47x87 inches ±5% Orthopedic and sport support products. Animal orthopedic products. Accessories for indoor sports. Decorator items.
K Foam Heavy density. Hardness is higher than L foam. Suitable for products with higher strength and more protection requirements. Orthopedic and sport support products. Often used for kayak skirts and boots.
L Foam Our regular 100% CR Neoprene foam. Soft and stretchable, Ozone resistant. 49x89 inches ±5% All types of water sports and diving suits, boots, gloves and accessories.
S Foam Lighter by about 20% than L foam. Soft, more stretchier than L foam, easy to put-on and take-off, feel the freedom of movement. All surface water sport products such as surfing and triathlon suits.

Bespoke Neoprene

We can order custom Neoprene sheets in small or large quantities depending on your Neoprene sheet needs. Neoprene is not made in the US, ours comes from Taiwan and Japan, and so there is a 8-9 week lead time for standard delivery or 2-3 weeks using air delivery at a premium price. Call or email us if you have custom neoprene requirements.

Printing On Neoprene

You can print on Neoprene sheets using dye sublimation if you order our White, double density white polyester on 1 side. Neoprene sheets can also have silk screen, heat transfer, puff ink, or water mark logos or designs placed throughout the sheet.
