FABRICS AND
NOTIONS We tested this pattern with spandex-blend swimwear fabrics
from chain fabric stores (spandex is the generic name for Lycra"). The fabric you use
MUST contain spandex. Swimwear fabric
generally has more lengthwise stretch than crosswise stretch. For this pattern we recommend fabrics with at
least 100% lengthwise stretch (4" stretches to 8") and 75% crosswise stretch
(4" stretches to 7").
Polyester fleece such as Polartec"
is used for the neck opening of the stretch sheet and the neck strip and muzzle
opening of the body cover. Use a one-way separating molded tooth zipper for the body
cover. You will probably have to buy a
longer size and shorten it as specified in the pattern instructions.
FITTING
Because of the stretchy fabric used, there is some leeway in
fitting. The pattern has a close fit,
but not a skintight fit. Fitting
instructions and charts are given in the pattern instructions, but to get an
estimate of materials needed, the sizes correspond to standard blanket sizes measured
from the middle of the horse"s chest around to the tail as follows:
XS- blanket size
44-52
SM- blanket size
54-60
MD- blanket size 62-68
LG- blanket size
70-78
XL- blanket size
80-84
If you have used SuitAbility Pattern 7570 for the stretch hood,
the sizing for the head part of the body cover in this pattern is exactly the
same. So the XS head for Pattern 7570 is
the same for the XS sizes in this pattern, and is used for body sizes 44"-52". We have tried to match the head sizes that
best fit the body sizes, but your horse or pony could be different.
